Cardiff University Rugby Club is extremely pleased to announce the recipients of their inaugural Former Players Bursary Award to Cerith Rees and Mark Schropfer.
Carith Rees
Fly-half Cerith Rees a Llandovery College graduate was once seen as a future Wales star, Graham Henry, the former Wales and now All Blacks coach, having pencilled in a young Rees as a potential Wales No 10.

Rees was first choice on a Wales development tour of Canada, but in his words after make a poor decision to move from Neath to Swansea and then on to Bridgend he lost his way and decided to move to France. After spells at Grenoble, Lons Le Saunier and Albi, he returned to the UK to play for National One Doncaster Knights two years ago, now playing his rugby at Cardiff University and Llandovery.
Cerith Rees Trivia:
Cerith played a major Part in the Swansea Varsity Victory over Cardiff in Varsity 8 held at St Helens in 2001.
Head of Rugby Martyn Fowler and Sports Coordinator Paul Jones are extremely pleased with the level of commitment Cerith has given to the Rugby Club, “he is extremely positive with the boy’s always looking to get involved and push the team forward, the squad can benefit from having Cerith involved his playing record is exemplary and it is hoped he can pass the lessons learnt in such a distinguished career to those involved in the club.
Mark Schropfer:
Mark a graduate of Olcha School in Swansea is in his second year studying Law, already a Varsity veteran Mark is this year’s club captain and an invaluable member of the 1ST XV squad, currently injured (Broken ribs) Mark is the clubs ultimate motivator an ever present at games and training whether fit or unfit to play.

Mark has represented Wales at U16 and U18 Level against England and Italy, caps coming on the back of strong performances for the Ospreys age grade squads.
Mark Schropfer Trivia:
Mark could become one of the first brothers to play in a Varsity Match this year, Marks Brother Michael (Pharmacy) missed out on Varsity selection last year due to injury but is on course for a Varsity place this year).
