Cardiff University Former Players Association

Cardiff University Former Player's Association

As former Cardiff University, UCW & UWIST Rugby Club Members you will all be aware that the Cardiff University Rugby Club is totally reliant on the generosity of the Students' Union and Athletic Union regarding funding it's participation in BUSA, Hong Kong, Varsity, Konica Minolta Cup and any friendly games we organise (including the Army and Navy U23’s annual games).

If you ever had the privilege to play in any of these competitions you would undoubtedly have happy memories of your time spent in the University Rugby Club. Disappointingly we have no history or ability to trace past members or past achievements of any of the University teams since 2006.

The Former Players Association will help with the ongoing and further development of the current crop of Cardiff University students who are as you were; caretakers of the University shirts. This initiative will also allow us to trace old members and rebuild and establish our heritage and proud history.

The funds raised through your membership of the FPA will give Cardiff University Rugby Club the opportunity to:

- Employ relevant level coaches for all teams.

- Hold positional coaching master classes with WRU and Cardiff Blues skills coaches and other specialist coaches.

- Pay for the teams to have team use of University or outside parties’ gyms and strength rooms. (Much needed in the modern game).

- Ensure physio cover at all games and subsequent rehabilitation requirements.

- Purchase much needed training equipment; Scrummage machine etc.

- Give the Cardiff University Rugby Club the opportunity to enter the WRU Leagues and play on Saturdays allowing past and present players to come together and play under the banner of the University.

- Fund FPA Dinners, Reunions, Golf Days and Tours ETC.

- Fund the investigation of past players and their achievements and log these achievements on the website.

- Fund the Participation and creation of a FPA team in the Hong Kong 10’s and the New York Big Apple Classic.

- Create a Former Players' Association Scholarship; ensuring the University recruits talented players to represent it.

Membership:

One off joining fee of £50.00

Monthly subscription: £2.50 (Paid by direct debit).

Benefits to potential FPA Members:

- Bespoke FPA Tie.

- Bespoke FPA Enamel pin badge.

- Bespoke FPA Blazer Badge.

- Replica Playing and Leisure wear.

- Enter a draw for a pair of debenture tickets for every game.

- Your own individual personal profile including a photograph of you when you were playing for Cardiff University. Details to include: when you played; who you played for (Men’s, Medics, Ladies, IMG) and any achievements you would wish to list to date since leaving the University.

- Your Club news via email listings.

- Your own FPA web notice board (forum based).

- An FPA annual dinner/reunion to be held in conjunction with the Welsh Varsity match.

- An opportunity to take part in the FPA Varsity match against Swansea, a potential curtain raiser to the main event. (Age Limits may apply).

- FPA Players who represented Cardiff University will have the opportunity to purchase Cardiff University Rugby Club Varsity Representation Caps with the date they played in on the peak of the cap.

- Opportunities to represent the FPA in friendly games against local sides, veteran teams and other Universities who have old boys and girls networks where appropriate.

- For younger FPA member’s, opportunities to field a team to participate in pre season fixtures against the Cardiff University Men’s, Medic and Ladies teams.

Your membership will assist the ongoing development of Rugby at Cardiff University.

Remember your time at Cardiff University with great pride and become a member of Cardiff University RFC Former Players association today.
