Cardiff University delivers a comprehensive rugby programme providing players with the opportunity to develop their rugby talent whilst studying for their degree. Rugby is a focus sport at Cardiff University, with a dedicated member of staff responsible for the management and delivery of the complete rugby programme. This role is undertaken by Martyn Fowler who is employed by Sport and Exercise as Head of Rugby and is responsible for the development of rugby throughout the University.

BUSA and Rugby Development

Cardiff University Men’s currently run 4 teams; one exclusively for Freshers, the 1ST XV play in the BUSA Premier League, the second and third teams play in BUSA West 2b. Further development opportunities are available for relevant level players as Cardiff University Rugby has a player placement scheme with Cardiff RFC in the Welsh Premiership and Merthyr RFC in Division 1 of the WRU Asda Leagues.
